The Stone of Madness
From the studio that brought you the Blasphemous series comes The Stone of Madness: a real-time tactical stealth game set in an 18th-century Spanish Monastery. Located in the Pyrenees, this time-worn Jesuit monastery is home to a madhouse and an inquisitorial prison. Five prisoners - plagued by cruel punishment, madness, and despair - pool their skills and resources to face their phobias, stave off insanity, uncover the mysteries of the Monastery, and find a way to escape.

Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely, for players seeking a challenging, atmospheric, and intellectually demanding experience. Its genius lies in the fusion of deep puzzle-solving, RPG character management, and oppressive narrative stakes. If you enjoy games that prioritize tension, consequence, and a unique aesthetic over fast-paced action, it's a must-buy. However, its deliberate pace and high difficulty may not suit those looking for a casual puzzle game or traditional RPG.
A single playthrough of the core narrative typically takes 12-15 hours. However, the game is built for replayability, with branching story paths, multiple endings tied to your moral and strategic choices, and a roster of characters with unique madnesses and skills. Seeing all major outcomes and experimenting with different team compositions can easily extend playtime to 25-30 hours or more.
No, The Stone of Madness is a strictly single-player experience. The core gameplay loop is built around solitary contemplation, managing the fragile psyches of your entire party alone, and immersing yourself in its tense, isolated atmosphere. The developers have focused all design efforts on creating a deeply personal and psychologically immersive journey, making multiplayer or cooperative features incompatible with the intended experience.
The Stone of Madness is confirmed for a simultaneous launch on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. There has been no official announcement regarding a Nintendo Switch version due to potential technical constraints. It will not be available on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus at launch, as it is a premium, standalone title from an independent studio.
While both share a gothic horror setting and stress-management mechanics, The Stone of Madness diverges significantly. It replaces turn-based combat with intricate, physics-based environmental puzzles. The strategic layer focuses on puzzle-solving logistics and asylum management rather than dungeon crawling. Its narrative is more centralized and driven by your direct choices within a fixed location, offering a more focused, claustrophobic, and puzzle-centric experience compared to Darkest Dungeon's combat-focused campaign.
